Donald Bergjord, 90, of Brookings formerly of Toronto, died Monday, March 27, 2017, in the Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Brookings.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. Burial is in the Toronto City Cemetery in Toronto. Visitation is 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Houseman Funeral Home in Toronto.
Donald Clayton Bergjord was born on March 8, 1927, to Oscar and Rosella (Gunderson) Bergjord on the Bergjord Farmstead. He attended country school before graduating from Toronto High School. He served in the Korean War. Donald married Daisy Busse on Oct. 30, 1954, in Luverne, Minn. They had three children, Jackie, David and Blair.
Donald farmed until 1967 when he went to manage the Deuel County Cenex Fertilizer Plant, retiring in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy; his three children, Jackie (Don) Pike, David (Mary) Bergjord and Blair (Colleen) Bergjord; six grandchildren; and three and half great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger; and a sister, Esther.
