PIERRE – The Governors swept the Bobcats in a baseball doubleheader Friday night, winning 2-1 and 1-0 in eight innings.
Brookings (12-4) is host to Sioux Falls Washington for a twinbill Monday at 5 p.m.
Pierre moved to 10-2-1.
Game 1
• Pierre 2, Brookings 1
Jayden Wiebe went 2-for-3, including a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the sixth, to lift the Governors.
Lincoln Kienholz allowed one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and a pair of walks over six innings. Issac Pullock worked around a pair of hits in the seventh to pick up the save.
Brookings’ Henry Hammrich, who ended up 2-for-4, led off the top of the sixth with a double and quickly scored on Cole Mahlum’s hit to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0.
Josh Devine surrendered two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks in six innings.
Game 2
• Pierre 1, Brookings 0 (8 inn.)
Bennett Dean came through with a walkoff single and also combined with Aaron Booth for a one-hit shutout as the Govs completed the sweep.
Jake Meyer singled to open the bottom of the eighth. Maguire Raske reached on a one-out error and Andy Gordon walked.
Following a strikeout, Dean came through with the big hit to the right side.
Dean tossed 4 2/3 hitless innings in relief to earn the win. He struck out one and issued a walk.
Booth gave up one hit with seven strikeouts and a walk over the first in 3 1/3.
Kyle Bauer was the tough-luck loser, surrendering just four hits with four Ks and a pair of walks. Pierre’s lone run was unearned.
Jackson Krogman had the team’s lone hit.
