PIERRE – The Bombers Gray split a youth baseball doubleheader against Pierre on Monday at Kelly Field as Brookings lost Game 1, 4-2, before coming back with a 15-9 win in the nightcap.

PIERRE – The Bombers Gray split a youth baseball doubleheader against Pierre on Monday at Kelly Field as Brookings lost Game 1, 4-2, before coming back with a 15-9 win in the nightcap.

The Bombers travel to Sioux Falls on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Central at Harmodon.

• Brookings 15, Pierre 9

Gray plated nine runs in the top of the first and then added three runs in both the third and fourth innings to cruise to the six-run win.

Braden Clifford went 4-for-4 with four doubles and five RBIs while Brayton Mack doubled and drove in two runs. Anthony Hildebrandt had two hits and two RBIs as Logan Stotz singled and drove in a run.

Gavin Fixsen gave up six runs – four earned – on six hits with two strikeouts over the first two innings while Jesse Roberts allowed three runs – one earned – on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in three innings of work.

Gray plated a run in the top of the first when Stotz took one for the team; advanced to second on Clifford’s single; moved to third on a fielder’s choice; and then scored when Roberts’ ground ball to shortstop was misplayed.

After Pierre tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first, Brookings tallied a run in the third when Clifford drew a two-out walk; stole second; and then scored on Isac Norgaard’s triple.

But the home team rallied with three runs in the fourth to rally for the win.

Ethan Molengraaf suffered the loss after giving up four runs – one earned – on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in four innings.
