VOLGA – Second-ranked Hamlin put five players in double figures while remaining undefeated with a 69-39 defeat of Sioux Valley in a Lake Central Conference girls’ basketball game Saturday afternoon.
“I thought my kids played well,” said Charger coach Tim Koisti. “They distributed the ball pretty well and our scoring was balanced; more balanced than it has been in the past. They did a nice job of involving each other, and I thought we moved the ball really well against their zone and got some really good open looks.”
Hamlin’s aggressiveness on both ends set the tone early.
The Chargers were up 12-6 after a quarter, 37-23 at halftime and 58-38 through three.
They outscored the Cossacks 17 (29 attempts) to three (nine attempts) at the free-throw line.
Lexi Wadsworth led all players with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Brynn Alfson and Logan Keszler added 13 points apiece, with Chloe Grantham contributing 11 and Grace West chipping in with 10.
Hamlin, which already wrapped up the LCC title, improved to 18-0 (6-0)
“I liked our energy and our effort throughout the entire game; we got after it,” said temporary Sioux Valley head coach Jordan Fast. “Hamlin is a very good team. They made shots, which is kind of the difference in the game. But we had a scout, we followed the scout and we did everything we could.
“We necessarily didn’t get a break or two, but you create breaks and that’s the way it went; and we’ll look forward to playing them hopefully in the future.”
Lynsey Stevens paced the Cossacks with 14 points.
Miakken Vincent added seven points, and Carly Granum, Cassie Rawden and Chloe Larsen tallied six apiece.
Sioux Valley (6-12, 1-4) plays host to Castlewood on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
