Helen A. Osmond, 88, of Brookings, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at the Brookings Health System. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Visitation was Monday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Helen A. Williams was born to Marshall “Mike” and Clara (Curtice) Williams on her mother’s birthday, July 4, 1930, near Elkton. They moved to Brookings in 1933. She attended school at Brookings but dropped out during her senior year to help take care of her father after he had brain surgery in 1948.
Helen worked at various businesses including Brookings Laundry, the VFW, Spies Super Value, County Market and Econo Foods for 18 years before retiring to babysit her grandchildren. Once they started school she started working at HyVee in 2004 at the age of 74 finally retiring for good in 2016.
In February 2016, she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
On April 19, 2016, she lost her husband, Lyle Osmond who she had been married to since Dec. 13, 1954.
Helen is survived by her son, Randy “Pete” Osmond of Richfield, Minnesota; her daughter, Cindy (Brian) Schmidt of White; four grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold (Maryann) Williams and Edward Williams.
