Jackrabbit women fall at Creighton, 67-55

OMAHA, Neb. – South Dakota State lost its third game of the season Sunday night. The Jackrabbits (2-3) fell to Creighton 67-55 on the road.

The Blue Jays jumped out to an 11-4 lead and led 14-8 after the first quarter. Creighton then led 19-12 and went on a 6-0 run to go up 25-12 with 4:03 left in the first half. The Blue Jays would take a 31-23 lead into halftime.

SDSU cut the lead to 33-28 midway through the third quarter, but the Blue Jays then went on a 12-0 run to go up 45-28. Creighton would lead 48-35 at the end of the third quarter.

SDSU was unable to come back as the Blue Jays kept the Jacks at arm- length the whole fourth quarter.

The Jacks shot 41% from the field and were 2-13 from three. They were 3-5 on free throws. Creighton shot 43% from the field and was 7-20 from three. The Blue Jays were 8-12 at the free throw line.

SDSU freshman point guard Paige Meyer led the Jacks. She had 15 points on 6-10 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists. Tylee Iriwn had 10 points and five rebounds. Paiton Burckhard had eight points and six rebounds. Haleigh Timmer had eight points and five rebounds.

Creighton was led by Emma Ronsiek. She had 18 points and nine rebounds. Lauren Jensen had 13 points and five rebounds. Morgan Maly had 11 points.

Creighton won the rebound battle 39-30. SDSU had 14 turnovers and Creighton had 11. The Blue Jays had 32 points from their bench and the Jacks had 12 points from theirs. SDSU had 38 points in the paint and Creighton had 30.

Up next, SDSU will travel to Estero, Fla., for the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Jacks will take on UMass in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of UCLA and Kent State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
