BROOKINGS – South Dakota State beat Creighton 66-47 in women’s basketball action Monday night at Frost Arena to improve to 2-0.
The Jackrabbits limited the Bluejays to 30.8 percent (16-of-52) shooting and forced 12 turnovers while committing just six.
Trailing 12-10 after a quarter, SDSU used a big second stanza to grab a 32-21 advantage at halftime.
The margin reached 19 points twice in the third, the latter coming at 45-26 with 3:20 left in the period.
Creighton – led by former O’Gorman standout Emma Ronsiek, a freshman – cut the deficit to five points at 52-47 with 6:25 showing on the clock.
However, the Bluejays didn’t score again.
Tori Nelson answered with a pair of free throws and Myah Selland scored in the paint with 4:32 to play.
Selland converted a foul shot with 3:57 to go and Lindsey Theuninck knocked down a 3-pointer with 3:13 left to essentially seal the deal.
Selland posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Ronsiek ended up with 15 points – all in the second half – on 5-of-7 shooting in 26 minutes off the bench.
