Jacks in the NFL: Week 16

Dallas Goedert (Philadelphia Eagles) SDSU: 2014-17

Weekly Notes: Goedert played 48 offensive snaps (59 percent) and 13 special teams plays in Sunday’s 32-30 win over the Houston Texans. He caught all three of his targets for 30 yards, including a long of 24 yards.

His first catch came in the second quarter with just under 6 minutes remaining. The Eagles were on Houston’s 8-yard line, down 9-7, on fourth down. Backup QB Nick Foles dumped a short pass right to Goedert who rumbled to the 2 and picked up a first down. Eventually, Philly scored on a short pass to go up 13-9 with 3:11 left to play in the half.

On the first play of the second half, a fellow Eagle fumbled a pass but Goedert was able to recover it and prevent the Texans from good field position on the Eagles’ own 34-yard line.

His 24-yard long – his last catch of the game – was in the fourth quarter with 6:17 left to play. Foles dumped another pass short left to Goedert who made his way up to Houston’s 49-yard line for a first down.

Up Next: At Washington Redskins (Sunday, noon). The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles (8-7) earn the final wild-card spot in the NFC with a win and a Minnesota (8-6-1) loss versus Chicago.

Season Notes: Has played 400 offensive snaps (156 special teams) and has had 39 targets for 30 catches and 297 yards and four touchdowns through 15 games.

Adam Vinatieri (Indianapolis Colts) SDSU: 1991-94

Weekly Notes: Vinatieri scored four points by going 4-for-4 on PAT kicks in the 28-27 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

His PAT with 55 seconds remaining gave the Colts their first lead of the game after trailing by 14 in the first quarter.

It marked Vinatieri’s 352nd regular-season game played, which tied Jeff Feagles for the third most regular-season games played in NFL history. The game is also the 193rd game for Vinatieri as a Colt, which ties him with Robert Mathis and Justin Snow for the seventh most games played in team history.

Up Next: At Tennessee Titans (Sunday, 7:20 p.m.). The Colts (9-6) clinch a wild-card spot in the AFC with a win over the Titans (9-6) OR a tie and Pittsburgh (8-6-1) loss or tie versus Cincinnati OR a tie and a Baltimore (9-6) loss versus Cleveland. … Indianapolis takes the AFC South Division title with a win and a Houston (10-5) loss versus Jacksonville.

Zach Zenner (Detroit Lions) SDSU: 2011-14

Weekly Notes: He led the team in rushing yards as the Lions lost to the Minnesota Vikings 27-9 on Sunday. Zenner had eight carries for 45 yards, including a long of 29, and two catches on four targets for 22 yards, with a long of 11.

Carrying the ball six times in the first half, the SDSU alum took the handoff on the second offensive play of the game for five yards and the third offensive play for 29 yards to Minnesota’s 37-yard line.

Zenner’s next biggest run came in the third quarter, down 17-9 with just under 6 minutes. He came off the left tackle for 14 yards to open the Lions’ next drive. However, it was called back because of holding but he added five more yards on the next run to make it second-and-11 from their own 12-yard line.

The Jackrabbit caught his two passes on back-to-back plays at the end of the game from backup QB Matt Cassel. He pushed the Lions 22 yards on two 11-yard catches to their own 41-yard line.
In total, Zenner played 27 offensive plays (36 percent) and 19 special teams plays.

Up Next:  At   Green  Bay Packers (Sunday, noon). The Lions are 5-10.

Season Notes: Has played 81 offensive plays and 128 special teams plays in seven games since signing back with the Lions on Nov. 6. Zenner’s rushed 34 times for 172 yards with a pair of touchdowns while catching six passes on nine targets for 26 yards.

Career Notes: Has run 153 times for 592 yards and seven TDs in 35 games over the past four seasons. Has added 26 receptions on 35 targets for 233 yards.
