BROOKINGS – The Jackrabbits look ready for Sunday’s matchup with No. 23 South Dakota after trouncing Purdue Fort Wayne, 92-68, in Wednesday’s Think Pink Night at Frost Arena.

The win boosts SDSU’s record to 21-6 overall and 13-1 in the Summit League.

“Just a good win – I thought we played really well offensively – 28 assists on 34 baskets is really impressive; just really good balance,” said SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. “Tagyn (Larson) is playing at a really high level right now – she’s playing as well as anybody that I’ve seen in our league – not just playing well for Tagyn. She’s really playing at a high level – not just making shots, but defensively, rebounding – she’s just a part of so many plays. You love seeing that as a coach – someone really develop and grow in their role and get to a point where you see that spark and that belief in them – that’s just really fun to see, so we’re really proud of what she’s doing.

“It was good to see Myah (Selland) try to make some plays today, too – be aggressive and assertive – I think we’ll need that going forward, so it’s good to see both of those two have good games. And Tylee (Irwin) was really solid.

“Just a good win for us and now we’re ready to move on to Sunday.”

The Jacks led by 15 points, 25-10, late in the first quarter following a Sydney Palmer free throw and were still up, 25-13, at the quarter break.

Purdue Fort Wayne started knocking down some shots in the second quarter and got within six points after two free throws by Hannah Albrecht, but a layup by Selland, followed by an old-fashioned three-point play by Macy Miller quickly pushed the lead back to double digits.

Another Selland layup with 2:46 to play in the half gave SDSU its largest lead of the night at 17 points – 46-29 – as the Jacks led 48-34 at halftime.

As has been the case most of this season, the third quarter belonged to the home team as Rylie Cascio Jensen’s 3-pointer midway through put the Jacks ahead by 20 points, 59-39.

Irwin’s 3 inside of a minute made it 70-47 heading into the final frame.

The Jackrabbit lead peaked at 29 points twice in the fourth quarter – after Lindsey Theuninck’s 3-pointer with 6:29 left and again following Palmer’s basket in the lane at the 5:01 mark.

The Mastodons never got closer than 22 points the rest of the way as they dropped to 6-20 on the season and 2-12 in league play.

Larson, reigning Player of the Week in the Summit League, led SDSU with 17 points on 7-of-8 from the floor along with 3-for-3 from the foul line. She added six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Miller finished with 12 points, five boards, six dimes and a block while Irwin and Selland added 11 points apiece.

The Jacks had 28 assists on 34 made baskets as 10 different players earned at least one.

Kierstyn Repp’s 16 points led Purdue Fort Wayne.

SDSU plays host to No. 23 South Dakota on Sunday at Frost Arena.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
