HOWARD – Mobridge-Pollock scored 181.5 points to beat the host Tigers’ total of 163 to win the team title at Saturday’s Howard H-Club Wrestling Tournament.
Kingsbury County finished 10th with 51 points and Flandreau tied for 11th with Tri-Valley with 47 points.
Alec Dobson led the Knights with a second-place finish at 126 pounds. The freshman won by fall in 1:33 over Flandreau’s Brayden Sayler in the first round and then won by fall over Parker’s Parker Eldeen in the quarterfinals. A 9-5 decision over Howard’s Carter Calmus in the semifinals followed, but Dobson lost by fall in 3:29 to Redfield Area’s Bradyn Robbins to place second.
Michael Witte’s second-place finish at 145 pounds led the Fliers. The senior advanced to the championship match with three wins by fall – in 43 seconds over Parkston’s Austin Bartelt; in 57 seconds over Cade Entwisle of McCook Central Montrose; and in 2:30 over Redfield Area’s Dylan Whitley. Witte lost 4-2 in sudden victory to Tucson Freeman of Mobridge-Pollock in the title match to finish second.
Monte Albrecht of Kingsbury County placed third at 152 pounds. The junior received a first-round bye before winning 2-1 in a tiebreaker over Trevor Frost of Redfield Area. After losing by fall to MCM’s Paul Lauck in the semis, he beat Flandreau’s Brendan Ten Eyck, 3-2, in the wrestlebacks to move into the third-place match. There, Albrecht won 5-3 in sudden victory over Parker Scheier, who was wrestling unattached.
The Fliers travel to Salem on Tuesday to compete in the McCook Central/Montrose quadrangular while the Knights compete in the Madison Invitational on Saturday.
Faulkton Invitational
FAULKTON – In a three-way race for the team title at the Faulkton Invitational, Elk Point-Jefferson totaled 167 points to edge out Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (164) and Sisseton (161) for top honors on Saturday.
Sioux Valley scored 11 points to finish 14th.
At 95 pounds for the Cossacks, David Knutson opened with a first-round bye before dropping a 10-0 major decision to Carter Lenz of KWLPG. Knutson advanced in the consolation bracket with a win by fall in 3:53 over Brady Unser of Ipswich/Leola, but lost by fall in 4:46 to Cody Meehl, who was wrestling unattached, to finish fourth.
Russell Sheets also received a first-round bye, followed by a 9-2 loss to Parker Geditz of the host Trojans. Sheets got another bye in the consolations before winning by fall in 2:49 over Lincoln Fortin of Warner/Northwestern. Sheets dropped a 5-2 decision to Elk Point-Jefferson’s Ben Swatek to move into the fifth-place match, where he lost a 2-0 sudden-victory match to Brock Martin of the Aberdeen Central JV to place sixth.
At 132, Caleb Elijah won his first-round match by fall in 1:33 over Aberdeen Central’s Zach Gonsor, but lost by fall in 1:36 to Coy Awender of Oakes, N.D. He then lost by fall in 1:46 to Conner Burgard, who was wrestling unattached.
