BROOKINGS – South Dakota State women's soccer head coach Brock Thompson announced the signing of Leah Manuleleua on Monday for the 2017-18 school year.
Manuleleua signed her National Letter of Intent over the weekend and is eligible to play immediately, coming to the Jackrabbits as a sophomore after one season at San Joaquin Delta College.
"We're thrilled to welcome Leah to our Jackrabbit Soccer family," Thompson said. "She's a tenacious, versatile forward who is extremely effective playing with her back to goal, as well as facing the goal and taking players on. Most importantly she's an incredible student, tremendous person and comes from great family."
From Manteca, Calif., she was a 2016 NSCAA Junior College Division II All-West Region performer after scoring 21 goals with 11 assists last season at Delta. Manuleleua started all 23 games for the Mustangs, ranking eighth in the CCCAA for goals and ninth in total points.
Prior to Delta College, the 5-foot-8 forward was a four-year standout at Manteca High School, where she graduated with school records in career goals (116) and points (238). She was a three-time All-League selection, earning MVP honors after her junior and senior campaigns.
During her senior season, Manuleleua led the state with 45 goals scored, netting 10 assists for a school-record 100 points while leading her team to its first-ever section title. Manuleleua notched 93 points in 2015 as a junior with a then-school record 38 goals and 17 assists after a sophomore session that saw her score 19 times and dish seven assists.
Manuleleua joins incoming freshmen Molly Ballinger, Eleanor Dick, Stephanie Dashiell, Rachel Hewitt, Taylor Lock, Marisa Shulz, Kaitlin Zabel and Allie Zueger in the 2017-18 signing class.
