BROOKINGS – After playing collegiately and pursuing golf professionally, Maggie Murphy was given a new opportunity by South Dakota State Director of Golf Casey VanDamme when she was named the assistant golf coach for the Jackrabbits on Thursday.
"I am extremely excited that Maggie has decided to be a Jackrabbit. Maggie's work ethic, attitude, vision and golf knowledge are exactly what will help our program continue to move forward," VanDamme said.
Murphy pursued professional golf status from 2010 to 2012 and most recently played in the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.
The Sioux Falls native played in the 2011 USGA Women's State Team Championship. In SDGA action, Murphy was the 2011 Players Cup Champion, the 2010 Match Play winner and the 2007 Amateur titleist.
Murphy competed in 35 tournaments at New Mexico State from 2006-10, earning National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar accolades and All-Western Athletic Conference Academic honors during her collegiate career. In 2006, Murphy was part of an Aggie team that captured the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate title.
Murphy earned a bachelor's degree in community health at NMSU in 2010 and was a Crimson Scholar.
Murphy was an All-State performer at Sioux Falls O’Gorman in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She redshirted her first season as at NMSU 2005-06.
