Manuleleua honored by Summit League

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State’s Leah Manuleleua was named Summit League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday.

Manuleleua helped the Jackrabbits to a perfect 2-0 record at home last weekend, thanks in part to a seven-point showing against Wayne State on Friday that included the ninth hat trick in program history. Manuleleua became the first to score three or more goals in a game for SDSU since Diana Potterveld did it in 2012.

The Manteca, Calif., native scored the game’s first goal in the fifth minute against WSC, taking a throw-in from Hannah Evans near the top of the box and firing it past the Wildcat keeper. She added another goal in the 32nd minute on a header from Carina McLennan’s corner kick, and after assisting on the game’s fourth score – scored by Evans – she completed the hat trick in the 48th, dribbling through defenders in the box and finding the back of the net.

The forward closed the weekend with a team-high four shots against Drake on Sunday, playing 66 minutes in the 1-0 win.

This is Manuleleua’s third weekly award after she picked up the honors twice in 2017.

The Jackrabbits continue their six-match homestand Friday against Green Bay at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon showing against Creighton at 1 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.

South Dakota goalkeeper Rytz Parker, a senior from Encintas, Calif., was named Summit League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

She made a career-high 11 saves during a 1-1 tie versus Eastern Washington. She also notched her league-leading second shutout in a 3-0 defeat of Chicago State.
