Marvel E. Jefferis, 94, of Estelline, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Brookings Health Systems.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Marvel Jefferis was born on April 8, 1923, in Bruce, the son of Jerry C. and Mattie (Weers) Jefferis. Marvel was a graduate of Bruce High School in 1941.
He married Iola Rudebusch on Nov. 12, 1942, in Huron. After their marriage they farmed with his father west of Brookings and later near Estelline until their retirement.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estelline and a past member of the Preston Township Board. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and especially spending time with family and friends.
Marvel is survived by his four sons, Richard Jefferis (Dinah) of Parker, Wayne Jefferis (Sandy) of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Ronald Jefferis, of Bruce and Jerry Jefferis of Littleton, Colorado; three daughters, Marilyn Thue (Wayne) of Hayti, Cheryl Jefferis of Sioux Falls and Linda Anderson (Roger) of Rapid City; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Ruth Eklund of Sioux Falls, Beth Berreth (Richard) of White and Jean Pierce, of Volga and one brother, Harold Jefferis (Julie) of Volga.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Iola, step-mother, Alma Bankert-Jefferis, sister, Jalois Pederson and brother, Boyd Jefferis.
