Marvin John Welbig was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Dell Rapids, SD to Nick and Viola (Huss) Welbig.  He attended school at Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Marvin was united in marriage to Charlotte Nielsen on Feb. 3, 1962, in Colman, SD.  They moved to a farm West of Flandreau, SD, where they farmed and raised five children.  They milked cows, raised cattle, hogs and crops.
Marvin was hard working and meticulous.  He took no shortcuts and left no job unfinished. There was nothing he couldn’t make, fix or improve.
When he wasn’t working tirelessly on the farm to provide for his family, Marvin enjoyed woodworking, visiting with friends, helping neighbors and of course, mowing the lawn.
Most of all, Marvin loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, who were blessed to be the recipients of his love, ethics and wisdom.
A special highlight for Marvin was a mission trip to Guatemala, where he helped build playground equipment for children in areas needed.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Charlotte of 59 years; four children, Teresa (Kory) Urban of Huron, SD, Terry (Kim) Welbig of Flandreau, SD, Cindy (Lance) Loban of Huron, SD and Karen Abbott of Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen grandchildren; Devon Urban, Lane Urban, Brian (Jenna) Welbig, Cody (Kristy) Welbig, MaKayla Welbig, Nicholas Welbig, Cynnamon Welbig, Ambria (Justin) Neshem, Taya (Cord) Glanzer, Jaclyn (Scott) Steinheuser, Hannah (Darin) Tschetter, Jackson Abbott and Sawyer Abbott; seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Cason, Tripp, Ryker, Slade, Harper and Evianna; his two brothers, Lloyd (Carol) Welbig and Raymond Welbig; along with many nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tamra; a sister, Armella and a brother-in-law, Richard Munson.
