NEWTON, Kan. – Denver's Mary Weinstein set a Summit League Women's Golf Championship single-round record with a closing 7-under-par 65 to lead the Pioneers to their fifth title in the past six years. Weinstein's score also broke the women's Sand Creek Station course record.
The junior took a one-stroke lead into the final round and stretched that margin to seven by the end of her final loop that featured seven birdies.
Four of those birdies came in her first five as holes and by the time DU's full lineup made the turn to the back nine, the Pioneers' lead had grown from eight to start the day all the way to 24.
Weinstein and Sophie Newlove both shot 34 on the front side and the Pioneers never looked back en route to a closing 7-under 281. Weinstein tied the tournament's 54-hole scoring record of 1-over 217, which had been shot five times before, as she won for the first time as a collegian.
Newlove, who finished at 224 after shooting a 71 in the third round, placed second. She was the 2018 champ.
