Mildred C. Johnson, 101, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Park Place Assisted Living in Brookings.
Funeral services celebrating Mildred’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Brookings with burial to follow at First Lutheran Cemetery, Brookings. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home.
Mildred Caroline Johnson was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Emma (Langner) Tillgren.
Milly moved to Brookings at an early age with her parents, where she attended school through 1935. She then continued her education at Paul’s School of Hairdressing in Minneapoli.
Milly was united in marriage to Raymond E. Johnson on Sept. 4, 1938, in Brookings. After their marriage, they owned and operated a beauty shop in Minneapolis. The couple moved back to Brookings in 1944 and continued to make their home in the community. Ray died on June 15, 1990, in Brookings.
Milly was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings. Throughout her life, Milly remained active playing cards, participating in gardening clubs, creating various crafts, and especially enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and many friends.
Milly is survived by her two sons, Phillip (Lola) Johnson, of Crosslake, Minnesota, and Craig (Peggy) Johnson of Denver; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Milly was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Johnson; and her brothers and sister, Melvin Tillgren, Earl Tillgren, Glenn Tillgren and Eleanor Wipf.
