The 2006 South Dakota Solar Bears AAA team won the Mountain Dew Blast Hockey Tournament in Fargo, N.D. last weekend.

The Bears opened the tournament with a 9-0 win over the Isanti, Minn., Warriors. Barrett Schweitzer had four goals to lead the way. Ethan Busch tallied two goals and an assist. Aiden Posthumus, Carson Odde (of Brookings) and Aiden Austreim (of Brookings) each scored a goal. Keller Herman and Brecken Glanzer both recorded an assist. Goalie Graysen Kasuske earned the shutout victory.

In the second round, the Bears tied the Omaha Midwest Rebels 6-6. Busch and Austin McBride each scored two goals. Austreim and Jack Mitchel both added a goal. Austreim, Herman, Devon Fischbach, Kowynn Muhl and Posthumus had an assist apiece. Kasuske was in goal, stopping 23 of 29 shots.  

The Bears needed a win in the third game to advance to the championship, and beat the Andover, Minn., Warriors 9-6. Busch recorded a hat trick to lead the Bears’ scoring attack. Schweitzer tallied two goals with Posthumus, Jake Bramer, McBride and Fischbach each adding one apiece. Muhl recorded two assists as Fischbach, Posthumus, Herman, Austreim, Schweitzer and McBride each were credited with one.

The Solar Bears opened the scoring on the first shift of the championship game and went on to beat Fargo, N.D., 9-1. Posthumus led the way with a hat trick. Busch, Herman, Schweitzer, Jackson Espland, Austreim and McBride each recorded a goal. Muhl and Mitchell both had two assists with Glanzer, Tyrone Erickson, Bramer, Austreim and Busch each getting one apiece.
