Orville E. Krause, 91, of Estelline, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the Brookings hospital.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Hidewood Zion Lutheran Church in rural Clear Lake. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Orville E. Krause was born on July 4, 1925, in Deuel County, the son of John and Ida (Klippstein) Krause. He was baptized on Aug. 23, 1925, and confirmed on July 7, 1940, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Havana Township. Orville received his education in rural school at District No. 49 in Deuel County. After receiving his education, he farmed until entering the United States Army in 1950, serving during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1952.
Orville married Lavonna Niemann on Oct. 25, 1953, in Clear Lake. Following their marriage, they farmed in Grange Township, rural Deuel County. Lavonna died Sept. 24, 2005, in Estelline. Orville continued to live on the farm.
He was a member of Hidewood Zion Lutheran Church since 1953 and is a past member of the Grange Township Board. Orville enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially time spent with his family and friends. He loved farming, as it was his lifelong passion.
Orville is survived by his two daughters, Julie (Russell) Hamann, of Clear Lake and Debra (Ronald) Schwartz, of White; two sons, Danny (Shirley) Krause, of Estelline and Garry (Sherri) Krause, of Estelline; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lavonna; three brothers, Elmer, Herbert and Alvin and two sisters, Frances and Myrtle.
