Preston honored for academics

Posted

South Dakota State's Rachel Preston was selected to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team.

Preston, a sophomore nursing major, holds a 4.00 GPA and has started all 20 games for the Jackrabbits this season. The Lakeville, Minnesota, native has played all but 38 available minutes for South Dakota State's defense, helping the team post a program-record 15 shotouts. SDSU's defensive unit has allowed only seven goals in 2019 alongside a 0.35 goals against average.

The Academic All-America program, run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The teams are voted on by Sports Information Director's from around the nation. Preston will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

She is the 12th Jackrabbit to earn Academic All-District honors and the first since Diana Potterveld in 2014.
