BROOKINGS – Wes Koenig lit the lamp twice and Philip Kuechenmeister posted a shutout between the pipes as the Rangers pulled away late for a 4-0 win over the Huron All Stars in a South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association boys’ game Friday night at Larson Ice Center’s Blue Rink.
Kuechenmeister finished with 28 saves.
Koenig opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 14:58 mark of the second period.
That’s where the score stood until Austin Lesnar found the back of the net with 13:18 remaining in the game. Ike Johnson assisted.
Koenig’s second goal came with 5:46 left, as Luc Bouchard was credited with the assist.
Max Kjelden provided for the final margin with an empty-netter with 1:38 showing on the clock.
Huron dropped to 3-4.
Brookings (2-3) has a pair of road games this weekend, taking on Sioux Center today at 4:45 p.m. and Aberdeen on Sunday at 3 p.m.
