WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The Rangers went 3-0 and won the Jeffrey Hayne Memorial Junior Gold A & B Tournament over the weekend.
Brookings wraps up the regular season with five contests over the next two weeks, beginning with home games against Watertown on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and Huron on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. The Rangers sit third in the SDAHA standings with a 12-2-1-0 record.
Friday
• Brookings 3, Centennial 2
Carter Merritt scored two goals, including the game-winner on an assist from Breck Hirrschoff early in the third period.
He also scored in the first, but the Rangers trailed 2-1 after a period.
Max Kjelden lit the lamp on a power play in the second to knot things up. Brody Powers was credited with the assist.
Goalie Kade Brecher made 23 saves.
Saturday
• Brookings 2, St. Thomas Academy 0
Carter Shoup found the back of the net with 7 minutes remaining in the game.
Kjelden scored off Shoup’s assist with 5:52 to go.
Philip Kuechenmeister stopped 27 saves to earn the shutout win.
Sunday
• Brookings 4, Eagan 0
Kjelden and Alec Rice netted first-period goals.
Honkomp lit the lamp in the second and Hirrschoff did the same in the third.
Ike Johnson (two), Honkomp, Rice, Bortnem and Merritt collected assists.
Brecher posted the shutout between the pipes.
