BROOKINGS – It took the Rangers over 4 minutes to get on the scoreboard, but when they finally did, the goals came quickly as Brookings beat Sioux Center, 12-1, on Friday night at Larson Ice Center.
Max Kjelden started the scoring onslaught off an assist from Dominic Dobesh before Dobesh scored an unassisted goal on a power-play opportunity.
Austin Lesnar then scored back-to-back goals – the first unassisted and the second set up Mason Gerstner.
Kjelden lit the lamp again with an unassisted tally, and then, Brenden Way found the back of the net off a Kjelden assist for a 6-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second, Cody Niklason scored off a Matt Chapin setup before Dobes scored his second goal off assists from Way and Brandin Heesch.
Carter Shoup made it 9-0 as Ike Johnson notched the assist, and then, Kjelden scored on another power-play opportunity as Jamison Honkomp picked up the helper.
The Storm scored with 1:23 left in the third for a 10-1 score through two.
In the third, Chapin and Honkomp added insurance goals as Shoup and Honkomp assisted on Chapin’s second goal of the night.
Honkomp provided for the final margin off assists from Kurt Gutormson and Kjelden as the Rangers held a 37-8 advantage.
Dylan Geraets finished with 7 saves for the win in goal.
Brookings travels to Pierre today to face Oahe and then returns home for a 1:45 p.m. game on Sunday against Fremont at Larson Ice Center.
