The Rangers split a pair of girls’ SDAHA games over the weekend – beating Omaha, 7-1, on the road on Saturday before falling 4-2 to Sioux Falls on Sunday at Larson Ice Center. Brookings, 9-5 and tied for fourth with Watertown in the standings, travel to Aberdeen to face the first-place Cougars in a pair of games this weekend.
• Brookings 7, Omaha 1
OMAHA – The Rangers scored twice in the first period, and then, after the Lancers pulled within 2-1 with a second-period goal, Brookings tacked on five unanswered goals in the third for the final margin.
Jadyn Peterson scored less than a minute apart midway through the first frame as Jenna Schulte set up the first goal and Carlie Kruse assisted on the second.
Leading 2-1 in the third, Janaya Kuehl scored back-to-back goals off assists from Montana Myer and Elli Hegdahl on the first and Hegdahl again on the second. Hegdahl then lit the lamp on a power-play goal with the assists going to Bethany Rennich and Kruse to make it 5-1. Rennich then scored back-to-back goals – the first on another power-play opportunity with 7:24 to play as Kuehl picked up the assist and then with 2:31 left as Peterson set up the goal.
Brookings held a 58-9 advantage in shots as Jadyn Runge finished with eight saves in the win.

BROOKINGS – The Flyers scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game before the Rangers cut the lead in half with 1:25 left in the period on a Rennich goal, assisted by Peterson, to make it 2-1 after one.
Sioux Falls built its lead to 4-1 heading into the third with a pair of second-period goals.
Addie Ramlo made it 4-2 with just 7 seconds to play as Myer and Kruse earned the assists.
The Flyers outshot Brookings, 29-27, as Runge came up with 25 saves.
