VALLEY SPRINGS – The Rats used a combination of 11 walks, six hits and three Brookings errors to beat the Cubs, 10-2, on Sunday night.

The Rats put up three runs in the bottom of the first without getting a base hit to set the tone.

Brookings got one run back in the top of the first when Skyler Cary reached on an error; moved to second on Tanner Swets’ base on balls; and then, Cary scored on Austin Koenig’s base hit.

Valley Springs used two singles and two walks to plate three more runs in the fifth to make it 6-1.

JaColby Anderson led off the sixth with a single and eventually scored when Sam Froehlich drew a base on balls with the bases loaded to force Anderson in to pull the Cubs within four, 6-2.

But the Rats responded with four in the bottom of the frame on three hits and two walks for the final margin.
