Region 3B: Arlington beats Lake Preston; De Smet, Castlewood, Wolsey-Wessington also advance

Arlington, De Smet, Castlewood and Wolsey-Wessington picked up quarterfinal wins in the Region 3B Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.

Region 3B: Arlington beats Lake Preston; De Smet, Castlewood, Wolsey-Wessington also advance

Arlington, De Smet, Castlewood and Wolsey-Wessington picked up quarterfinal wins in the Region 3B Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.

The Cardinals defeated Lake Preston (6-16) 64-29, the Bulldogs dropped Deubrook Area (8-13) 58-43, the Warriors knocked off Iroquois (5-17) 71-45 and the Warbirds edged James Valley Christian (10-12) by a 54-48 margin.

The semifinals are Friday in Madison.

Arlington (16-5) and De Smet (10-11) square off at 5 p.m. and Castlewood (13-7) takes on Wolsey-Wessington (14-6) at 6:30 p.m.

 Arlington 64, Lake Preston 29

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field and committed just nine turnovers while more than doubling up the Divers.

Will Parry scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He added five assists and three steals.

Devon Heuer flirted with a triple-double, scoring 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting while recording nine boards and eight dimes.

Arlington led 14-7 after a quarter, extended the advantage to 33-12 at halftime and was up 54-27 through three.

Casey Stegeman added eight points in 12 1/2 minutes before fouling out. Scott Sampson and Trevor Larsen both contributed six markers.

Lake Preston ended up at 23.9 percent (11-of-46) from the floor.

Allen Strande and Byron Bumann led the way with nine points apiece. Jack Hasche had seven points and 10 rebounds.

DE SMET – Gage Gruenhagen scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Bulldogs over the Dolphins.

Jack Bandemeer scored 16 points for Deubrook.

 Castlewood 71, Iroquois 45

CASTLEWOOD – Brandon Benike had 26 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors, who led 22-17 after a quarter, 38-23 at halftime and 58-38 through three.

Caleb DeKam added added 10 points, five boards and five assists. Dylan Johnson scored 11 points.

The Chiefs got 16 points from Keistan Dubro.

 Wolsey-Wessington 54, James Valley Christian 48

WOLSEY – The Warbirds outscored the Vikings 20-12 in the fourth quarter to overcome a two-point deficit.

Wolsey-Wessington was up 9-7 after 8 minutes; however, James Valley Christian led 20-18 at halftime and 36-34 through three periods.

The Warbirds’ Lynden Williams posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Carter Mehling added 13 points and Mark Hamilton 10.

JVC’s Ryan Wager had a game-high 23 points.
