Richard H. Minor, 90, of Brookings, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at the Brookings Health System, Brookings.  

Memorial Services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings. Memorial Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings. 

Richard H. Minor was born on Nov. 10, 1928, in Brookings,  the son of Henry R. and Marie (Katt) Minor.

 Richard received his education in rural school in Brookings County school district #44 and at San Jose, California, and also at the Brookings High School.  From 1928 until 1937, they lived in on a farm north of Brookings until moving to San Jose, CA in 1937 until 1944.  Richard served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 until his discharge in 1953.  

He was united in marriage to Genevieve “Jean” Olson on January 9, 1955 in Walnut Grove, MN.   After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County for 25 years, living south of Brookings in Medary Township until 1962 and then moving to a farm north of Brookings in Sterling Township from 1963 until 1974.  He was employed on a part-time basis at the Grossman Sales Barn in Brookings for five years.  Richard also was employed at the Farmer’s Co-op in 1973, the SDSU Farm Dept. in 1974 and became the manager of the Farm Dept in 1985.  He continued his employment at SDSU until his retirement in 1994.

 He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, the American Legion Post #74. Richard served on the rural school board district #92 in the 1960’s, served on the American Legion Firing Squad since 1961 and played city league softball for many years.  He enjoyed reading, golfing, watching sports, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by one daughter, Peggy Marie Larson and her husband, Jim of Brookings; three sons, Richard Alan Minor of Trumansburg, NY, Randall Steven Minor and his wife, Pam of Sioux Falls, Paul Gene Minor and his wife, Corinne of Carrollton, TX; his grandchildren, Jay (Nikki) Larson, Jennifer (Kevin) Moravetz, Katie (Al) Cook, Kelly (Daniel) Stilwell, Hannah (Robert) Mathison, Elani (Caleb Dirksen), Erica (Douglas Ross), Landon Minor; step-grandchildren, Neil (Brittney Carr) Jeffries and Nick (Makenzie) Jeffries; granddaughter-in-law, Misty Larson;  great grandchildren, Cameron Larson, Kaylee and Chloe Heather, Mackenzie, Braydon and Avery Larson, Jeorgia and Nevada Larson, Ryan, Miranda and Alexis Moravetz, Max and Megan Cook, Wesley and Riley Stilwell; step-great grandchildren, Derek and Mariah Olson; one brother, Ronald J. Minor and his wife Beverly of Flandreau  and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean; two grandchildren, Jeff Larson and Janet Larson.
