Roland “Rollie” Harrington, 83, of Hayti, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, at the Human Services Center, in Yankton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Hayti Lutheran Church, in Hayti. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden.
Roland Wayne Harrington was born on Aug. 12, 1935, in Spencer, the son of Howard and Lola (Coatsworth) Harrington. Rollie served in the US Navy from 1952 until 1956, when he was honorably discharged. Rollie married Betty Olson on November 2, 1956 in Colton. Rollie was a firefighter in Brookings and worked for the City of Brookings for 25 years before becoming the Director of Public Works in Oakdale, MN for 15 years until his retirement. In retirement, he returned to South Dakota, and made his home in Hayti.
He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rollie is survived by his three children, Mike (Nancy) Harrington, of Maple Grove, MN, Steve (Julie) Harrington, of St. Michael, MN, and Susan (Doug) Foley, of Chamberlain; 14 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty; one brother and great granddaughter, Jodee Skustad.
