BROOKINGS – Brookings Regional Humane Society presents the second annual Ruff Rider Poker Run, starting from The Depot, 921 20th St. S., Brookings, on Saturday.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.

All modes of transportation are welcome.

The run features a 69-mile scenic drive with stops in Arlington, Volga, Lake Poinsett and Bruce. The run ends at Brookings Regional Humane Society for a TAILgate party. Poker hands are $10 each, with cash prizes for the top hands and door prizes for lucky participants.

The TAILgate party is open to the public starting at 5:30 p.m., even if they weren’t able to join the poker run.  Everyone can enjoy live music by Plum Crazy, food from the Midwest Fresh food truck, beer by Wooden Legs (must be 21), yard games and tours of the BRHS facility.  The event wraps up at 7:30 p.m.

The Brookings Regional Humane Society is a nonprofit organization located at 120 W. Second St. S. in Brookings. Donations and fundraisers are critical for the survival of BRHS as they are not a part of or funded by any larger groups or agencies.  The mission of the BRHS is to:

• To shelter homeless pets;

• To protect animals by finding permanent loving homes through an aggressive adoption outreach program;

 • To educate the community about companion animals and promote responsible pet care and pet ownership; and

• To promote the reduction of pet overpopulation through spay/neuter education and programs.
