YANKTON – Jacob Schoon won the 170-pound title as the Bobcats placed fifth in the team standings at the Yankton Tournament on Saturday.

Pierre (232 points) edged Millard South (224.5) for the team championship, while Rapid City Stevens (173) finished third and Lennox (116.5) fourth.

Schoon pinned his way into the final.

He dropped Yankton’s Owen Warren in 1:11, Dakota Valley’s Sam Wente in 4:24 and West Central’s Jason Simon in 4:55.

Schoon earned an 11-4 decision over Rapid City Stevens’ Dante Colicheski in the title bout.

Tate Coon placed second in the 160-pound weight class.

He won by fall in 57 seconds versus Yankton’s Connor Davenport in the first round and then pinned Lennox’s Ben Zarr in 39 seconds in the quarterfinals. Coon edged Millard South’s Isaac Trumble 3-2 in the semifinals.

West Central’s Tristen Boeckholt dropped Coon 5-3 in the final.

Sam Lehman (126 pounds), Logan Hadley (182) and Gus Miller (220) each placed fifth.

Lehman opened the day with a pin in the first round but was then pinned in the quarters. He bounced back with a pair of decisions in consolation action, before dropping a major decision in the consolation semifinals.

Lehman pinned Tea Area’s Jakob Thomas in 1:27 in the fifth-place match.

Following a first-round bye, Hadley dropped a decision in the quarterfinals. He used a pair of decisions to reach the consolation semifinals, before dropping another decision.

Hadley won by fall in 2:04 over Max Schoenfelder of Mitchell in the fifth-place match.

Miller got things going with a pin; however, he lost by fall in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Miller recorded a pin and a decision before getting pinned in the semis.

Miller toppled Yankton’s Cole Diedrichsen in the fifth-place matchup.

Carson Klinkhammer (120 pounds) and Cole Eidem (195) both finished seventh.

Klinkhammer posted a 3-2 record with two pins. He had a 10-3 decision against Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Daniel Momotic in the seventh-place match.

Eidem was also 3-2 with a pair pins. He won the seventh-place bout via an injury default.

Also for BHS, Connor Klinkhammer (106 pounds) went 2-2, Rhett Zelinsky (138) finished 1-2 and Jacob Montis (132) was 0-2.

The Bobcats were open at 112, 145, 152 and 285 pounds.

Brookings heads to Harrisburg for an Eastern South Dakota Conference triangular to close out the regular season on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Brandon Valley is also attending the event.
