Scott Michael Herreid, 62, of Brookings, died Monday, April 17, 2017.

Memorial services  are at 1 p.m. Monday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.  Visitation is from noon until the time of the service at Rude’s Funeral Home.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Scott Michael Herreid was born on Feb. 25, 1955, to Mike and Jean Herreid in Sioux Falls.  He was the second of the four boys.  He spent his childhood in the Sioux Falls/ Brookings area. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973.  He attended Black Hills State University for a year and then Sioux Falls College where he enjoyed college life to the “fullest” and made many lifelong friends.

On Feb. 24, 1976, he met Ginny Warner while recruiting for Sioux Falls College, after which they began dating. They were married on Feb. 2, 1979, in Casper, Wyo. They settled in Brookings, where Charney Lee and Lucy Kae completed their family.

Scott spent his career in customer service including 22 years at Harold Photo, and the last 12 years at Citibank. Scott showed his dedication to customer service by providing road reports to KSOO during the varying South Dakota driving conditions.

He enjoyed golfing with the TSLTFTGAFSGL and his best friend Don McCoy.  He developed a love of sign making and whittling wooden canes while dealing with bad knees. He loved to customize them for special events, friends and even strangers; asking only that the recipient make a donation to a charity of their choice in lieu of payment. Anyone who was familiar with Scott knew of his unique poetry skills, love of music and obsession with the Green Bay Packers.

He loved his children and grandchildren deeply.  He would attend every school event, deliver lemonade on a hot day to Charney’s roadwork site as well as send daily cards to Lucy while at basic training. Scott was affectionately known as G-Daddy to his six grandchildren Tanner, Haylee, Cadance, Johnathan, Lane, and Molly.

Scott lost his battle with depression on April 17, 2017.

Scott is survived by his wife, Ginny Herreid; daughters, Charney Lee (Mark) Wentworth and, Lucy Kae (Landon) Myer; six grandchildren; mother, Jean Herreid; brother, Mark (Maria) Herreid, brother, Bradley Herreid, brother, Kevin Herreid.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Mike Herreid.
