BROOKINGS – The 32nd annual SDGA Two-Man Championship is Saturday and Sunday at Brookings Country Club.

The field is full, with 100 teams set to tee it up.

Tee times are between 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m. on both the first and 10th tees.

The format is four-ball in Round 1 and Chapman in Round 2.

The event is pre-flighted, but all teams are eligible to win the title.

Twenty-seven BCC members are in the field.

Brookings Country Club measures 6,770 yards from the tips and is a par 72. It is rated 72.8, with a slope of 129.

Past champions

The two-time defending champions, Sioux Falls’ Parker Klitzke and Sam Olson, are not entered.

However, numerous past winners of the event are in the field, including 2014 champions Brandon Sigmund and Jeff Meyerink, of Mitchell. Todd Hofland and Hak Steen, the 2007 champs, are back at it on their home course.

Pierre’s Michael Keeton won the 2015 event with Elkhorn’s Tad Leistico. This year, he’s entered with Brookings’ Brodie Hullinger. The duo took the Mid-Amateur Two-Man crown last year.

Keeton has five career SDGA victories, adding wins in the 2017 Mixed Team, 2016 Match Play and 2016 Mid-Amateur.

Leistico also won in 2013 with Ryan Tjeerdsma. He’s teaming up with Sioux Falls’ Julean Michels, who was on the runner-up squad a year ago.

Sioux Falls’ Danny Amundson and Chad Dubisar are together. Amundson placed first with Brandon’s Charlie Jacobson in 2012, while Dubisar has three Two-Man titles – with Brookings’ Matt Einspahr in 2000 and 2001, and with Brady Marone in 1989.

Charlie Jacobson is paired up with Watertown’s Brad Jacobson – no relation.

Einspahr, who also won the inaugural event with Bill Scholten in 1987, is teaming with Jared Baszler this year.

Ryan Jansa is the most decorated amateur golfer in state history with 25 career victories, but is still seeking his first Two-Man title to complete the career “grand slam.”

Jansa is teaming with fellow Sioux Falls golfer Keith Kogel.

Jansa has a record eight Amateur wins, placing first in 2009, 2004, 2003, 1996, 1995, 1994 and 1993. He won the Match Play in 1993 and 1995; and the Mid-Amateur in 2015, 2009 and 2008.

He is the only player in history to twice win the Amateur and the Match Play in the same season.

Jansa has a record four Mid-Amateur Two-Man crowns, winning with Kasey Kogel – Keith’s twin brother – in 2013, 2012 and 2011, and Steve Reiter in 2008.

Ryan and Julie Jansa have won a record eight Husband-Wife titles – 2016, 2015, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006. They took the Mixed Team championship in 2013.

Recent results

Sioux Falls’ Jesse Talcott won the Mid-Amateur last weekend at Fox Run in Yankton. The 2014 Amateur champion is teaming with Sioux Falls’ Scott Beckman this weekend.

Chris Long, the Mid-Amateur runner-up, and Matthew Johnson are teamed up again. Long has five SDGA crowns, including Mid-Amateur triumphs in 2013 and 2011. Johnson was runner-up in the Match Play in 2013 at BCC.

Michels won the Mid-Amateur last year.

Marion’s Arron Lickteig, the 2016 Amateur champ, is paired with Chris Lickteig.
