South Dakota State golf has announced the signing of two athletes to the 2022-23 team. Luke Honner and Bryson Mercier will join the Jackrabbit men’s squad next fall.

“I’m excited that both Bryson and Luke have decided to become Jackrabbits,” said interim head coach Mike Nagy. “They are exactly the type of student-athlete we are looking for to join our program. Each of them display a calm and collected attitude with a drive to continuously get better every single day. They will provide a competitiveness to our team and greater depth to push our team in an upward direction. Both are exceptional young men that will represent our team and university in a first class manner.”

Honner was runner-up at the South Dakota Class AA Boys State Golf Tournament this fall and is a two-time all-tournament team selection. The Sioux Falls native was a four-time All-State honoree in is high school career and won two team championships, one each in 2018 and 2020. Honner set his personal best 64 round in 2021 and was the individual metro champion with a 65 scorecard. He was part of the squad that posted a school-record team round of 278.

Honner has also earned scholar-athlete recognition twice and was named academic all-state in 2021. He is the son of Scott and Paige Honner and plans to major in psychology.

Mercier was named the Wisconsin Junior Player of the Year in 2020 and won the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship in 2021. He has posted more than 10 junior tour victories on the Wisconsin Junior Tour Circuit and let the circuit in scoring average the past two seasons. The Powers, Michigan native and was the high school state individual champion in 2019 and 2021 and was named to the all-state first team those years. Mercier also won the Upper Peninsula Junior Championship three consecutive years fro 2019-2021.

Mercier earned academic all-state recognition in 2021 and serves as the president of his high school’s National Honor Society. He is the son of Adam and Melissa Mercier and plans to major in business and data analysis.
