WACO, Texas – The South Dakota State football team continues to rake in preseason accolades, placing third in the initial Football Championship Subdivision poll conducted by the American Football Coaches Association.
The Jackrabbits, who finished the 2021 season with an 11-4 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs, received one first-place vote and 566 points. Defending national champion North Dakota State received the other 24 first-place votes to finish atop the survey with 624 points. Montana was second with 567 points, while Montana State (560 points) and Villanova (493 points) rounded out the top five.
Earlier this month, SDSU was tabbed second in the preseason national poll conducted by Stats Perform.
The Jackrabbits’ season opener is set for Sept. 3 at Iowa, with the home opener slated for Sept. 10 versus 22nd-ranked UC Davis.
