SDSU wins exhibition opener

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team had three players score in double figures as the Jackrabbits recorded an 80-46 exhibition win over Concordia (Neb.) Thursday night at Frost Arena.
Myah Selland led the way with 17 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double with a game-high nine boards. Tagyn Larson added 16 points and five rebounds. Newcomer Paiton Burckhard tallied 11 points and seven rebounds, while Megan Bultsma came off the bench for eight points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs were led by Philly Lammers’ six points and six rebounds.
SDSU opened the game with a 7-0 run and had a 13-point lead after a Selland free throw at 3:32. After a Concordia basket, the Jackrabbits closed the quarter with an 11-0 run. Bultsma scored the first four points of the second quarter to start a 12-4 run that gave South Dakota State a 40-10 lead with 4:29 to go in the half. Selland’s layup at the buzzer gave the Jacks a 45-18 halftime lead.
South Dakota State built a 28-point lead with 10 seconds left in the third quarter and then outscored the Bulldogs 15-9 in the final quarter.
SDSU is host to Mary in an exhibition game Thursday at 6 p.m. at Frost Arena.
