Shirley J. Overskei, age 88, of Brookings, formerly of Nunda, passed from this life into the arms of her Lord Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 in Brookings.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church, Nunda. Burial will follow at Prairie Queen Cemetery, rural Nunda. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Shirley Joan Oglesbee was born at home on Sept. 8, 1930, to Everett and Cleta (Hess) Oglesbee, at Madison County, Winterset, Iowa. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Winterset High School. Shirley lived and worked in Des Moines, Iowa as a bookkeeper for a plumbing business until she married Ernest Overskei on Nov. 9, 1968. They were married at the Grace Lutheran Church parsonage, Nunda, and made their home on Ernest’s farm east of Nunda. They were married almost 32 years. Ernest passed away on Nov. 5, 2000.
Shirley was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grace Women of LIFE, and Sheron-Faiferlick American Legion Post Auxiliary Unit 105 of Nunda.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her parents, and one sister, Pat Turner.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, Lyman Overskei of Madison; one sister-in-law, Arlowene Overskei of Roseville, MN, nephew Joel (Donna) Overskei and family of Nunda; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
