BROOKINGS – Sioux Falls Roosevelt edged Sioux Valley for the cheer title and Brandon Valley took the dance crown in the Brookings Invitational on Saturday at the Swiftel Center.

Cheer

The Rough Riders earned a score of 289.5.

The Cossacks were second at 282.

“Our scores from the performance judges were fabulous,” said Sioux Valley coach Casie King. “We definitely have some things we need to fix and build consistency, but overall it was a strong performance.

“We had two stunts come down and a jewelry infraction for a total of nine points in deductions. Our difficulty is carrying us through, but we want to up our execution scores. I’m very proud of the athletes and the scores they are earning at this point in the season! We have big goals for the next few weeks and are looking forward to the upcoming competitions.”

Sioux Falls Washington (250), Brandon Valley (247) and Watertown (244.5) rounded out the top five.

The Bobcats placed sixth with a score of 239.5.

“Overall, I am pleased with the performance of the cheer team,” said BHS coach Becca Rounds. “We focused on increasing the difficulty for certain sections of our scoresheet.

“Going into next week, I hope the girls can stay positive and make corrections to stunting and tumbling to be back in the top four.”

The Lynx posted the win with a 277.17.

Sioux Falls Washington (266.67), Sioux Falls Roosevelt (249), Yankton (247.17) and Harrisburg (241.83) placed second through fifth, respectively.

The Gazelles were the only team to compete in kick, earning a 224.5.

The Bobcats finished 14th overall at 189.67.

They were 13th in hip hop (197.5) and 14th in jazz (189) and pom (182.5).

“We are so grateful for the support from the community today and all those who cheered us on,” said BHS coach Alisha Auen. “We had a crazy day with a sprained ankle and concession, yet the girls managed to be resilient and had a strong performance!”
