VOLGA – Sioux Valley swept a doubleheader from Madison on Sunday at Hoff Field, winning 13-8 and 16-2 in five innings.
The Cossacks (6-1) play host to Deuel on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Game 1
• Sioux Valley 13, Madison 8
Nick Strasburg went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored, and the Cossacks built a 9-0 lead after two innings.
Chase Ringheimer hit a three-run bomb.
Noah Puetz, who doubled, and Cole Gross both totaled two hits and an RBI. Tyler Schwartz also tallied two hits.
Riley Janke homered for the Bulldogs.
Strasburg picked up the win on the mound for Sioux Valley, allowing just one run – unearned – on one hit and four walks with eight strikeouts in four innings.
Game 2
• Sioux Valley 16, Madison 2 (5 inn.)
Puetz helped keep the hit parade going in the nightcap for the Cossacks, who were the visitors in Game 2, as he went 3-for-3 with two triples, a double, a walk, four RBIs and three runs score.
Brayden Havrevold (three) and Gross (two) combined for five RBIs while tallying two hits apiece.
Havrevold was the winning pitcher, surrendering two runs – one earned – on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk in three innings. Olson tossed the final two frames.
