Steven “Tranny” Selken, age 67, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Steven Arnold Selken was born on May 2, 1951, to Harley and Pauline (Gahl) Selken in Volga. He was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1970. Following high school, he attended Canby Area Technical Institute in Canby, MN, graduating with a welding certificate. Steven held various jobs. He worked with an elevator crew in N.D. and worked road construction as a mechanic as well as at Case Power and Equipment in Brookings, and Butler CAT, Sioux Falls. 

On Sept. 21, 1974, Steven was united in marriage to Peggy Borstad in Brookings. They soon became loving parents to their children.

Steven’s hobbies included tractor pulls and collecting toy tractors – red in particular. He enjoyed building storage sheds, benches and buildings, including his home. Steven’s greatest passion was his family and grandkids.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Peggy; children, Mashelle (Shad) Mehrer of Sioux Falls, Jason (Jenny Moose) Selken of Albuquerque, N.M., and Justin (Pam) Selken of Brandon; adorable grandchildren, Taten Mehrer, Tyler Mehrer and Elizabeth Selken; siblings, Kathrine (Ray) Causten of Rolling Hills, WY, Judy Berdahl of St. Paul, MN, Royal (Jo Ann) Selken of Humboldt, Mark (Jan) Selken of White, Linda Selken of Brookings,  and Jon (Julie) Selken of Colorado Springs, CO; God-daughter, Madalynn Stammer; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joel Selken.

Memorial visitation with family present 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Memorial services are at 11 am Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 S. Duluth Ave., Sioux Falls.
