Era ends as Erickson coaches final home meet

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State men's swimming and diving teams closed their home season as both teams fell to North Dakota on Sunday.

The meet ended an era at SDSU as head coach Brad Erickson concluded his last home meet before retiring in June.

During the meet, Erickson was presented with an award from the city of Brookings claiming Sunday, Jan. 15, as "Brad Erickson Day."

Men

• UND 222, SDSU 73

Joseph Weber went 2-0 on the weekend on the 1-meter board as he captured first with a score of 307.95 points to go along with a second-place finish on the 3-meter board (307.80).

The team of Chase Petersen, Wyatt Rumrill, Tony Mikrut and Chris Rumrill claimed second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3 minutes, 30.84 seconds.

Donovan Taylor placed second in the 100 backstroke (53.75) and the 100 butterfly (52.36).

Tony Mikrut placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.90, while Chase Petersen finished second in the 200 backstroke.

Women

• UND 231, SDSU 61

The Jacks fell to North Dakota, 231-61.

Emily Moore placed first on the 1-meter board with a score of 223.42 and second on the 3-meter board with a 193.80.

Kristin Erf captured second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.28 seconds.

The foursome of Katya Vakshteyn, McKenna Shallberg, Cassie Hendricks and Richelle Bruyckere finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.45).

Up Next

The Jacks travel to North Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Women

• SDSU 156, USD 142

The Jackrabbits won 11 events. as SDSU opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as Samantha Prasher, Erf, Alexandra Spinner and Ashley Theobald took first in 2:01.88.

The team of Richelle Bruyckere, Erf, Daniela Santillan and Vakshteyn broke a pool record in the 400 freestyle relay, claiming first in 4:00.84.

Erf continued her winning ways, taking first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.36. She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:41.83.

Elizabeth Buchholz captured first in the 800 freestyle (9:29.48), while Bruyckere claimed the 100, 200 and 400 freestyle with times of 1:00.48, 2:09.14 and 4:33.15, respectively.

Spinner continued to shine in the butterfly, taking first in the 200 with a time of 2:26.98 and the 100 in 1:05.94.

Theobald closed out the wins with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (26.78).

Men

• SDSU 155, USD 145

Wyatt Rumrill remained undefeated in the 200 breaststroke after taking first with a time of 2:22.52.

Chris Angerhofer, Christian Offenhauser and Weston Christensen claimed first, second and third in the 800 freestyle with times of 8:42.46, 8:46.64 and 8:47.95, respectively.

Chris Rumrill captured first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:56.66) and 100 freestyle (53.09), while Taylor took first in the 200 butterfly (2:12.26).

Petersen and Matthew Carpenter finished first and second in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:10.00 and 2:10.87, respectively.

In diving, Weber won both the 1-meter (295.7) and 3-meter (315.3) dives.
