BROOKINGS – Brookings Elks Lodge No. 1490 selected two community programs, Teen Challenge and Salvation Army’s Share the Warmth, for a $2,000 grant through the Community Investment Program. Members listened to presentations and voted at their meeting to apply for the gratitude grant from their parent organization.
Brookings Lodge member Phil Baker said, “Teen Challenge of the Dakotas exists to transform the lives of people who have life-controlling problems. Teen Challenge helps people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually alive.”
Share the Warmth provides community members with winter outerwear for struggling families in Brookings County. The organization relies on community donations and more than 200 volunteers for its success. Its goal is to help ease the burden of the cost of necessary winter outerwear.
This grant will provide outerwear to residents in Brookings, Volga and Elkton.
