Thomas Leo Ryan 92 of Indianapolis, IN passed away Saturday Sept. 12, 2020, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born Aug. 23, 1928 in Pender, Nebraska to Mark Joseph Ryan and Ann (Harrower) Ryan. He married Deloris M. (Yeager) Ryan on Sept. 2, 1961, in Chicago, IL, she preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 2019. He was a brother at New Melleray Abbey, a Trappist monastery, in Dubuque, IA, for 6 years. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado where he received his B.A. Degree and received his Masters of Education from Loyola University, Chicago, IL. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He had been a literature and history teacher at Lincoln Hall Middle School in Lincolnwood, IL for 15 years. He later had been an insurance sales associate for the Prudential Insurance Company for 22 years. He enjoyed writing, was part of countless writing clubs, including writing his “Ramblings from Ryan’s Roost” for a local paper in South Dakota and publishing a book titled, “Life and Adventures of Tom the Bomb.” He attended Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church. He and his late wife Deloris enjoyed raising Irish Terriers and Great Pyrenees dog AKC also a conservationist, they enjoyed raising sheep on the South Dakota Farm. Survivors include his two daughters Michele L. Disselhorst (Robert) of Crystal Lake, IL and Mary Anne “Mimi” Malicote (Randall) of Martinsville, IN, seven grandchildren Kathleen Prim (fiancé’ David Riggs) of Greenwood, IN, Ryan Disselhorst of Chicago, IL, Kelley Prim of Indianapolis, IN, Emily Smith (Samuel) of Crystal Lake, IL, Sarah Malicote (fiancé Drew Stahley) of Mooresville, IN, Jack Disselhorst of Chicago, IL and Bridget Malicote of Martinsville, IN, five great grandchildren Keaton McLouth, Leo Smith, Bradley Ashburn, Owen Smith and Nathan Smith and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Deloris M. (Yeager) Ryan, two brothers Richard Ryan, Mark Ryan and one sister Janice King.
Father Vinny Gilmore will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Thomas Leo Ryan and Deloris M. (Yeager) Ryan on Friday Oct. 23, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church 335 South Meridian Street in Greenwood, IN.
Inurnment will following on Friday at 2 p.m. at Marion National Cemetery 1700 East 38th Street in Marion, IN.
