Toscano paces Jackrabbits on Day 1 of Kansas City Shootout

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Teresa Toscano is tied for second place on the individual leaderboard and the South Dakota State women's golf team is a close third in the team standings after the opening day of the Kansas City Shootout.

Toscano fired consecutive rounds of 3-over-par 75 Sunday at Shoal Creek Golf Club. In Round 1, Toscano parred the first six holes she played before carding a birdie to move to 1-under. She played the same stretch of holes at 1-under during the afternoon round and will enter Monday's final 18 holes tied with UMKC's Mackenzie Black (72-78) for third place.

Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State holds a two-stroke lead over South Dakota's Brenna Lervick (73-76), 147-149. Torgerson shot a tournament-best 70 in the opening round before finishing the second round with a 77.

The Jackrabbits improved by 15 strokes in the team competition between the first and second rounds, starting the day with a 317 team total before finishing with the low team round Sunday afternoon at 302. Hallie Getz turned in the best individual round of the day for the Jackrabbits in Round 2 with a 73 to end the day tied for eighth place at 154 (81-73).

Islamiah Fuad posted rounds of 80 and 76 to stand 14th with a score of 156. Sydney Bormann (81-78) is tied for 19th at 159, with Megan Mingo (81-79) a stroke behind at 160 to be tied for 25th among 61 golfers in the 10-team field.

Wichita State (307-309) and Northern Illinois (308-308) share the team lead at 616, three shots ahead of the Jackrabbits.

Natcha Srimaneerungroj competed as an individual for the Jackrabbits and is tied for 35th overall with a one-day total of 163 (83-80).

The tournament's final 18 holes begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
