Toscano wins GCU Spring Invitational

PHOENIX – South Dakota State’s Teresa Toscano birdied the first hole in a three-woman playoff to win the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational, which concluded Sunday at GCU Championship Golf Course.

Toscano carded a career-low-tying 54-hole score of 4-under-par 212 (70-71-71).

Southern Utah’s Chanikan Yongyuan (74-71-67) and Lamar’s Elodie Chaplet (72-73-67) also finished at 212 in regulation. Both golfers parred the first playoff hole.

Toscano birded the 17th and 18th holes in the final round after making a bogey at the eighth.

She finished the tournament with 12 birdies – five each in the first two rounds – and eight bogeys.

Toscano tied Megan Mingo’s (2013-17) Division I-era school record for career wins at three.

Her other victories came at the UNO Invitational on Aug. 31-Sept. 1, 2018, and the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 10-11, 2017.

SDSU’s Mia Seeman (76-76-74—226) tied for 28th, Lani Potter (77-78-72—227) tied for 36th, Cassidy Laidlaw (76-80-75—231) took 56th and Sydney Bormann (80-83-79—242) tied for 90th.

The Jackrabbits finished fifth in the team standings at 896 (299-305-292). Toledo won at 877 (285-294-298).

The Jackrabbit Invitational is March 10-12 in Boulder City, Nev.

Men

PALM DESERT, Calif. – South Dakota State tied for 17th in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Sunday at the Classic Club, shooting 913 (310-295-308).

Jacob Otta (77-73-74—224) tied for 50th, Jared Nicolls (78-73-74—225) tied for 52nd, Jones Comerford (78-72-77—227) tied for 67th, Alejandro Perazzo (77-82-83—242) finished 110th and Harry Duggan (84-77-89—250) ended up 116th.

Boise State’s Skyler Eubank was medalist with a 9-under 207 (68-68-71) total. Texas Tech won the team title at 858 (290-282-286).

The Jackrabbit Invitational is March 8-9 in Boulder City, Nev.
