GRIFFITH, Ind. – Valparaiso defeated South Dakota State 5-2 in a Summit League men’s tennis dual Friday afternoon at Match Point Tennis Club.
The Crusaders won two of the three doubles matches to earn the point. They then recorded victories at Nos. 5, 2 and 4 sin- gles to grab a 4-0 lead and seal the dual win.
The Jackrabbits got on the board via Elliot Ward’s 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Franklin Brozovich at No. 6.
Valparaiso’s Chad Kissell defeated Emerson Styles 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 in the No. 1 singles matchup.
SDSU’s Carlos Martinez dropped Gabriel Carvajal 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 3.
The Crusaders improved to 7-10 (4-1).
South Dakota State (0-15, 0-2) takes on Illinois State in another conference dual today at 2 p.m. at Match Point in Grif th, Ind.
