Verna E. LaLonde, 92, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Edgewood Vista, Flandreau.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Second Presbyterian Church with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be 5-7:30 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.

Verna E. LaLonde – Flandreau

Verna E. LaLonde, 92, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Edgewood Vista, Flandreau.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Second Presbyterian Church with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be 5-7:30 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.

Verna was born Dec. 21, 1924, at Pipestone, Minnesota, to Horace and Myrtle (Gilfillan) Lynn. She was educated in Pipestone Public School, graduating in 1942.

Verna married Ellis LaLonde on Nov. 17, 1944, at Pipestone. After his discharge from the Air Force, they lived in Dell Rapids and Tripp before moving to Flandreau. In 1956 they moved to Cannon Falls and then Hastings, Minn., before returning to Flandreau in 1957. They farmed the family farm north of Flandreau, retiring in 1986, but they continued to live on the farm.

Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 2003. Verna lived on the farm until moving to Edgewood Vista in Flandreau in June 2010.

She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, was a church deacon and taught Sunday school. Verna was a member of the North Get-Together Club and loved baking bread and cookies, gardening, canning, riding horses and watching “M*A*S*H” and “Wheel of Fortune.”

Verna is survived by three children, Debra LaLonde (Ty Hargrove), Pipe Creek, Texas; Rick (Connie), Flandreau; and Tamra LaLonde (Brian Sundberg), Fergus Falls, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Karen McGinnis, Virginia Beach, Virginia; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ihla Donaldson, Saline, Michigan.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband Ellis, son Larry, granddaughter Jessica DeNure, great-granddaughter Lauren Nelson, and four siblings, Leonard, Edythe, Ruth and Clifford.
