BROOKINGS – Weber State picked up a pair of victories, including a four-set defeat of host South Dakota State, as the Jackrabbits Invitational continued Friday at a steamy Frost Arena.

Weber St. tops SDSU

BROOKINGS – Weber State picked up a pair of victories, including a four-set defeat of host South Dakota State, as the Jackrabbits Invitational continued Friday at a steamy Frost Arena.

The Wildcats beat Green Bay 30-28, 25-15, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 and SDSU 25-16, 25-20, 26-28, 25-16. The Phoenix dropped Seattle 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 in the other match.

“There were a lot of positives after not having a solid match last night. We turned it around at least,” coach Nicole Cirillo told SDSU Sports Information. “We passed better and we had three different players in double digits in kills. There is a lot to take away from this, both good and bad.”

The event concludes today with Weber State (3-2) taking on Seattle (2-3) at 10 a.m. and SDSU (0-5) playing Green Bay (2-4) at 2 p.m.

 Weber State 3, SDSU 1

The Wildcats prevailed 25-16, 25-20, 26-28, 25-16.

Megan Gneiting had 15 kills, two blocks, an ace and 14 digs. Andrea Hale added 13 kills, a service ace and a block. Rylin Roberts totaled 13 kills, an ace, a block assist and 15 digs. Hannah Hill contributed 11 kills and two blocks (one solo). Sam Schiess added 10 kills and two blocks.

Ashlyn Power dished out 51 set assists and came up with 14 digs. Katie Erwin notched 22 digs.

Makenzie Hennen led the Jackrabbits with 18 kills, an ace and a block. Crystal Burk had 11 kills and a block assist. Sierra Peterson came through with 10 kills and a block. Payton Richardson finished with seven kills and 2 1/2 blocks (two solo).

Maddie Fay had 42 set assists. Kari Brucker tallied 24 digs and Ellie Thein 12.

SDSU has lost 19 consecutive matches.

 Weber State 3, Green Bay 2

The Wildcats pulled out a 30-28, 25-15, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 victory.

Andrea Hale had 18 kills, an ace and a block assist. Morgan Gneiting added 14 kills 1 1/2 blocks and an ace. Sam Schiess totaled nine kills and three blocks (one solo). Hannah Hill contributed nine kills and two blocks.

Ashlyn Power dished out 49 set assists and came up with 11 digs. Rylin Roberts had 19 digs, Katie Erwin 16 and Hale 10.

For the Phoenix, Taylor Wolf racked up 29 kills, a block assist and 14 digs. Ashley Sledge had nine kills and a block, and Kristen Paulus also had nine kills. Maddie Yoss, who had eight kills, tallied 52 set assists and Vanessa Buman notched 20 digs.

 Green Bay 3, Seattle 0

The Phoenix bounced back from the loss to the Wildcats with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 defeat of the Redhawks.

Taylor Wolf had another big match with 17 kills, two aces and a block assist. Ashley Sledge contributed 10 kills and a block.

Maddie Yoss dished out 41 set assists and Vanessa Buman came up with 14 digs.

Seattle’s Rachel Stark had 11 kills and a block assist. Julia Queiroz added 10 kills and 1 1/2 blocks. Shae Harris totaled 31 set assists and Tijana Milojevic tallied 11 digs.
