Wilson’s big night leads SDSU to win over UND

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Douglas Wilson matched his career-high with 31 points and led South Dakota State men's basketball to its seventh-straight victory Wednesday night. Wilson added six rebounds and four assists as the Jackrabbits topped North Dakota 94-83.

The Jacks were red hot on offense as they shot 62.3% from the field and were 9-22 from three. They also went 17-21 from the free throw line.

SDSU and UND went back-and-forth during the first 16 minutes of the game. UND took a 36-35 lead with 3:29 left in the first half and then SDSU went on an 9-0 run and had a 44-39 lead at halftime.

The first-place Jackrabbits flexed their muscles in the second half as their lead grew to 64-50 with 12:53 left in the game. The Fighting Hawks didn’t give up though as they cut the lead to 78-73 with four minutes to go.

The Jacks would answer and grow their lead back to double digits. SDSU made their free throws down the stretch and improved to 21-8 overall and 12-2 in the Summit League.

SDSU freshman Noah Freidel had 21 points. Alex Arians had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Baylor Scheierman had 11 points and Matt Dentlinger had nine. The Jacks outrebounded the Fighting Hawks 29-20 and outscored them in the paint 44-32.

UND (12-15, 6-7) had three players score over 20 points. Filip Rebraca and Kienan Walter each had 23 points and Marlon Stewart had 21. Rebraca had five rebounds and Stewart had eight assists. The Fighting Hawks had no bench points while SDSU had 19.

SDSU sits atop of the Summit League with their 11-2 record with two games remaining on their schedule. North Dakota State beat South Dakota in Vermillion Wednesday night to improve to 11-2 in conference. 

With that NDSU win, SDSU and NDSU have now clinched the top-two seeds in the Summit League Tournament. The Jacks host USD on Sunday at 2 p.m. before finishing the season in Fargo against NDSU on Feb. 27th. SDSU can clinch the No. 1 seed by winning out or the Bison losing two of their final three games.
