Winghart throws no-hitter for Bombers

SIOUX FALLS – Bombers Black went 1-2 over the weekend at the Mid-Summer Classic in Sioux Falls. 

• Sioux Falls West 8, Brookings 2

Sioux Falls West jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Bombers were able to take the lead in the third inning. Trenton Pederson led off the inning with a single and Tyson Brandt reached on an error. With one out, Justin Cofell grounded out and Parker Winghart scored.  Brandt scored on an error to make it 2-1. 

The lead would not last long as Sioux Falls West scored three runs in the fourth inning. They would blow the game open with four runs in the sixth and Brookings was unable to come back.

Matt Nordmeyer started the game for the Bombers and pitched five innings. He gave up seven runs, six earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Brand pitched one inning and gave up one run, not earned, on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Coffell went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Isaac Schulte Pederson each went 1-for-3.

Northrup scored a run apiece in the first three innings. Brookings scored one run in the sixth inning when Cofell scored on a passed ball. Northrup then scored three runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. 

Nathan Lease pitched three innings and gave up three runs on five hits with one strikeout and four walks. Rocklyn Dauphinais pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits with no strikeouts and one walk. 

The Bombers had just three hits in the game. Zach Struck and Cofell each went 1-for-2. Jaxton Eck went 1-for-3.

Parker Winghart pitched a five inning no-hitter for the Bombers as blew out Mitchell.

Brookings scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Pederson led off with a walk and Brandt singled. Pederson scored by stealing home. Brandt and Winghart scored on an error to make it 3-0.

The Bombers added a run in the second inning on a two-out double from Pederson.

Brookings would blow the game open in the third inning with five runs to go up 9-0. They scored their runs on two walks, a wild pitch and an error.

Mitchell scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third and Brookings scored a run on a wild pitch in the fourth put the game out of reach.

Winghart had five strikeouts and one walk in five innings pitched.

Cofell went 2-for-2 and Brandt went 2-for-4. Winghart went 1-for-2 and Pederson went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
