ABERDEEN – Joe Strada had two goals and a pair of assists as the Wings beat the Brookings Blizzard 6-2 in an NAHL Central Division matchup Friday night at Odde Ice Center.
Jonathan Bendorf scored a power-play goal midway through the first to get things going. Brad Belisle added a goal with 3:01 to go to make it 2-0.
The Blizzard’s Luke Aquaro lit the lamp on assists from Brookings native Carter Krogman – his second of the year – and Andrew Meininger later in the first.
Strada quickly answered with his first tally, giving Aberdeen a 3-1 cushion late in the first. Thomas Rocco had a short-handed goal and Strada scored again the second to extend the advantage to 5-1.
Brookings’ Sam Antenucci found the back of the net on a power play with 2:51 to go in the period. Tom Magnavite assisted.
Aberdeen’s John Sladic scored on a power play with 11:34 to go in the third to provide for the final margin.
Nic Sicoly had two assists for the Wings (5-2, 10 points).
Matt Vernon made 22 saves to earn the win in goal. Brookings’ McLean Dorr stopped 33 shots.
The teams combined for 80 penalty minutes on 11 infractions as Brookings’ Brendan Aird and Aberdeen’s Tim Makowski both received game misconducts.
The Blizzard (1-4-1-1, 4 points) play at Austin tonight at 7:05.
